The Official Daughter Of Summer (Carter)

Sunny Lee was going to make the most of her free day. Granted she couldn't surf at the camp's lake, but she could do her second favorite thing, and that was soak up some rays. She was the Daughter of Summer after all, and Notus kids loved them some sun. First, she needed to hit the camp store though. She needed some sunscreen and some bottled water. Granted, her demi-god make-up left her in less danger of sunburn and dehydration than most others, but it didn't hurt either. Though impulsive at times, Sunny Lee did play it safe at others.

Clad in shorts and her orange camp shirt that covered her red swimsuit, along with a pair of sunglasses and flip flops, Sunny Lee stepped into the store and looked about. They had some nice beach blankets too. She had more than enough of those, but why not add another to het collection? As she shopped, she turned and smiled at the camper running the shop. She did a surfer's hand gesture of greeting before she looked over the lotions. The place had a surprisingly large selection. She went for a lighter one. After all, again she didn't need anything that strong.

Carter wasn’t someone who frequented the store. She wasn’t a super material person. She valued art and expression more than she valued her material possessions, however, she needed a new notebook. She had filled up her old one last night just past 1 am and she still had tons of muse coursing through her veins. It was a nice day, the sun was out but there was still somewhat of a breeze coming off the lake keeping it cooler here at camp. She was going to get her notebook, maybe impulse purchase a new pen or two, and then go and lay next to the lake while she wrote until she got hungry enough to go up to the mess hall for lunch.

Walking into the store, Carter found that she wasn’t the only camper currently shopping. This place was fairly busy most of the time, but since she only went in maybe once every few weeks, it still surprised her to see people there rather than out enjoying the day or doing something else. Still, she supposed people had to make their purchases sometime. Someone who she wasn’t entirely familiar with waved at her when she walked in, she gave a polite smile before going to pick out her notebook. As she passed the sun lotions, she nodded to the girl. “Are you headed to the lake today as well?” she asked politely while thumbing through the notebooks behind her.

Sunny Lee turned when she heard the other girl speak to her. She recognized the girl from the Apollo Cabin. Sunny Lee had been there quite a few times. She wasn't the best when it came to some aspects of training, so she got a lot of bumps and bruises that required healing. She had often spotted the girl before her in there, but never had her assigned to Sunny Lee. Whatever the case, she have the girl a warm smile. Sunny Lee was ever the friendly young lady.

"I am indeed," she said. "Just getting a few things. I've seen you at your dad's cabin. You've probably seen me there a few times getting patched up." She gave a chuckle at that, and then extended her hand. "I'm Sunny Lee, aka the Official Daughter of Summer... meaning my father is Notus the South Wind. I just kind of came up with that title for fun. Good times, right?" She looked over the lotions again to see if there was something a bit lighter before looking back at the other girl. "If you're going to the lake, you can join me if you want. It would be nice to have a sunning buddy today."

Carter nodded when the girl said that she had seen her at the Apollo cabin and that maybe Carter had seen her there getting patched up. She nodded even though there were hundreds of people that came through the cabin a week, sometimes even that many a day. Carter's bed was right up front with the other counselors, so she got a first glimpse at the activity coming through the door. But she couldn’t say that she remembered every face. “Yeah, i’m sure i’ve seen you there.” she agreed. Not a lie. She was sure she had. She couldn’t couldn’t recall any specifics about the girl. The girl introduced herself as Sunny, the daughter of summer. Carter laughed a little along with her. She explained her parental situation, as most demi-gods felt the need to, and said that she gave herself the title for good times. “It’s pretty cool. I’m sure a lot of people get a kick out of it.” she smiled. Then Sunny suggested that they go to the lake together, since they were both going. “Yeah, sure. I’m just gonna be writing, not really planning to get in the water or anything…” Carter was all about managing expectations. She wasn’t really energetic and fun. She was quiet, albeit she was friendly, and she might be able to be convinced to have more fun if someone tried hard enough. “I’m Carter, by the way.” she added before taking her notebook and pen selection to the counter.

Sunny Lee supposed people got a kick of out her name and good cheer behind it. It really depending on the people. Some were drawn to Sunny Lee's cheerfulness, and some were probably repelled by it. Whatever. Sunny Lee had fun with it, and her new friend there at the store seemed to like it.

"Yeah, it's fun. Glad you like it. Love your hairstyle, by the way, and the color. I mean, I like my red hair and all, but I would love to dye it dark now and then. I love seeing natural dark."

The girl, who introduced herself as Carter, was down to join Sunny Lee, which made her beam. She loved company on the beach.

"Sweet! And epic to meet you, Carter. I don't really plan to get into the water either. I'm more about the big waves, hopping on my board and just riding them. Nothing brings me more joy." She sighed. "Makes me miss Miami summers, but the good thing is Florida has surfing weather most of the year so I still have some time on the waves when I come home from camp." She then smiled at Carter again. "So... a writer, huh? What do you like to write?"

Carter always kind of felt like an outcast as a daughter of Apollo. Her father and siblings were talented with medicine and had a way with words and music and art. And she supposed she did too, on paper, but when it came to social interactions, she was pretty awful. She was awkward, and didn’t really do well in witty conversation. She was better with people when she got to know them and was comfortable around them, but new people were hard. Sunny complimented her hair, saying that she liked the dark color. Carter smiled. “Awe thanks. I can’t say i’ve ever really thought much about it.” she admitted. It always just seemed kind of average to her.

Sunny then admitted that she didn’t plan to go into the water either and she missed the big waves and Miami summers. “I bet it’s nice. I’ve never been down to Florida, I’ve never actually been to a warm ocean.” she admitted. Her mother and her had traveled around the Pacific Northwest a bit, so she had seen the ocean there. And the ocean in Jersey of course, but it wasn’t entirely warm. She had never been anywhere tropical and sunny.
