Carter Petal Duncan|Camp Halfblood|16|Apollo| |Truth Detection|India Eisley|
PERSONALITY
Carter is personable, cheery, and creative. She keeps a journal, and likes to write songs and poetry, but doesn't much like to share with others. She can literally sense with when someone is lying, if she shared with someone and they told her they liked it but she could tell they didn't, it would break her heart. So she just doesn't share. She's sensitive, responsible, and can be somewhat explosive at times.
Carter is fairly hot headed. She can usually cool herself off and just focus that energy into her writing, but sometimes she can't and ends up blowing up on who or whatever sent her off. It's been how she was her entire life, and could be because her mom never set boundaries when she was a kid.
Carter is tough, physically. She has spent a lot of time over the last 5 years at a camp training and learning, and even fighting. She can handle her own in the training yard and in the battle arena, and is confident when it comes to helping those in her cabin. But mentally and emotionally, she was a delicate little flower. She doesn't handle criticism well, and hats when someone doesn't like her. She has been known for making herself physically sick with worry in the past, but it's something she's working on.
HISTORY
Carter Duncan was born to a human mother whose name was Lily. Lily made her living writing children’s books and always had an obsession with the unexplainable. She loved mythology and folklore and tended to be on the more eclectic side of life. Lily met Apollo, without truly knowing who he was, at a basement production of The Trojan Women put on by a college playhouse featuring unexpericed actors. Lily liked to support that kind of art. She liked to encourage during the most vulnerable times. Lily had never been known as a particularly conservative woman, so it wasn’t surprising that she slept with the God, but it was slightly surprising when she turned up pregnant.
Carter was born in April in the state of New York, but after that first year of her life, she had never stayed in one place for more than a month. Her mother was a nomad and had a hard time staying out. They lived in an RV and drove around the country. Carter was home schooled on the road. She dreamed of real school, but was told by her mother that she’d be no good at it since she was dyslexic and often had a hard time staying focused. Carter blamed her focus problems on no sense of stability in her life, but that's besides the point.
As Carter started to grow, she felt more like she and her mother were constantly running away rather than exploring new places. Just when they’d get settled in one state or another, they’d pack up in a hurry and run away again. It wasn’t until she was 10 that she understood why. Things were following them and a little voice kept whispering to Lily that it was time to go once they arrived. At the age of 10, after making that revelation, Lily and Carter were approached by a Satr and told it was time for Carter to go to camp. It was hard to believe that she was a Demi-God as she was being told, but upon arriving at camp, Carter was the daughter of a Godly father. However, no one seemed to want to claim her for the first summer she was there. She spent one summer unclaimed and then went back home to stay with her mother, whoever she was at the time, until around Christmas time. When her mother announced she was pregnant with her new boyfriend and was going to move to Canada with him. Carter felt on her own more than ever, and decided to return to the only place she felt understood: Camp Halfblood. She had been a full time camper ever since.
Carter was involved in the events of the past few years heavily, and grew a lot during that time. Now at game 16, Carter is a counselor at camp in the Apollo cabin.
EXPLANATION OF ABILITY SPECIALTY
Carter has the power of Truth Detection, which doesn't mean that she always knows what the truth is, but she does know when someone is lying. It's a power that looking back she's pretty sure she's had for her whole life, but she only really realized when she was 12 or so. She always got a bad feeling when someone told a lie, a tingling feeling in the pit of her stomach, which probably added to her making herself sick with worry. As far as she knows, it's the only power she got from her father.
