Next to being outside at night, the water was the most calming place Amy could think of to spend her time. Normally she tried to take a camper or two out in the canoes, but today her entire cabin had found something else to do. It left her with no other choice than to grab a book and a bag full of snacks and water so that she could head out herself.
Canoes were harder to handle on her own. Amaryllis' backpack had already been tossed inside to get the weight off of her back, but she still hadn't gotten the thing to move. At this rate she'd be in the water by dinner time, if then. This day was going downhill and fast.

By far the worst part of being a cabin leader was the extra chores. Sure, leading expeditions to the other camp could be dangerous, and dealing with new campers who insisted that they didn't have enough room for their wardrobe could be tiresome, but Piper preferred them infinitely over the drudgery of spending her spare time sorting weapons or performing some other menial task. At least those expeditions were also exciting, and while some new campers could be annoying, Piper knew that they were mostly acting out of fear and confusion.
Granted, Piper's assigned duties for the next few hours weren't that bad. She was supposed to watch over the campers in the arts building and clean up the place at the end of her shift. It was definitely better than mucking the stables. Still, Piper couldn't really see the use in her assignment. There weren't too many lethal objects in the arts building, and even if the campers brought their own weapons inside, the really violent demigods tended to avoid the place.
A glance at her beat-up, plastic watch told her that she'd be late. That was fine with her. It was the one assignment that she never bothered to show up on time for. No one noticed, and nothing had ever happened while she'd been away. It was the arts building, not the arena. So Piper continued her slow amble around the lake (she'd decided to take the long way), figuring she'd spend a few more minutes milling around before finally heading towards the arts building.
As Piper rounded the corner, a girl came into view. She appeared to be struggling with a large canoe. Whether she was trying to push it in or pull it out, Piper couldn't tell. "Hey!" Piper gave a small wave to get the girl's attention. "Need some help?"
OOC: Hope this was okay! It's been forever since I've RPed.

Amy smiled brightly at Piper as she approached. She didn't know the other girl very well, but she had at least seen her a time or two because of her counselor duties. Plus, it wasn't THAT big of a camp. You had to run in to everyone eventually, right? " Yes please! Normally I don't have this much trouble, but today the stupid thing wants to give me fits. You'd have to know it's one of the only times I didn't guilt trip one of my campers in to coming with me." She laughed lightly, moving to one side of the boat so that she could try pushing it again from another angle. (ooc: your post is awesome! sorry that mine is so short )

Piper smiled in relief when Amy accepted her offer of help. This would at least give her something to do and delay her inevitable trek to the arts building. She quickly made her way to the canoe, grinning at Amy's comment. "I wish I could guilt trip my campers into doing stuff. It'd be so useful during cabin inspection time." Of course, Piper could always charmspeak them, but she found the idea distasteful and unnecessary.
The canoe barely moved as Piper started to push. "Shouldn't these things be a lot lighter?" Piper had always thought of canoes as rather lightweight. They certainly didn't look that heavy. Then again, she should've figured that she would be wrong. Piper rarely went canoeing, and when she did, the canoe was usually already in the water. She redoubled her efforts, grunting slightly as the boat started to shift.

"This should not be this hard." Amaryllis groaned, stopping her efforts to move the canoe long enough to look inside it. Something sat at the bottom of it, hidden under some random gear. Moving things around quickly, she smacked her forehead at the site. "Weights. Actual, legitimate weights. Who would put these something like that inside a canoe?" Already, ideas of possible culprits were coming to her. Hermes cabin was definitely at the top of the list, followed closely by maybe the Ares kids. Who else would even consider doing something that potentially reckless? Apollo cabin made it just for kicks, mostly because she wanted a third place to be fair.

"Weights?" Piper repeated, frowning. She peered inside, and indeed, there were several metal weights lining the bottom. Piper leaned down and wrapped her hands around one before pulling it up with some difficulty. Unfortunately, there were no special markings that could have indicated who it belonged to. It was just your standard weight, the kind that most of the demigods used to train. "Could be anyone, but I'm guessing Hermes."
As Piper carefully set the weight back down, an idea occurred to her, and she lowered her voice so that only Amy could hear. "If this is a prank, then the person responsible is probably still around, watching for a reaction." After a furtive glance around, Piper's gaze landed on a bush that had seemed to shift slightly. Whether it was just the wind or an actual person, Piper could not tell, but she attempted to catch Amy's attention anyway and jerked her head towards the bush before raising her eyebrows in question.

Amy nodded and stepped towards the bush slightly, turning just in time to see a blur run away from behind the bush. "super speed. Definitely a son of Hermes. " Well, there was no way to tell exactly which one it was now. All she could do was take the weights out of the boat one at a time so that she could go on with her day. " Thanks by the way. I would've never noticed this things if I had kept trying to push the canoe in by myself." some times it was a wonder she had survived being a half blood for this long.

They had barely moved towards the bush when the boy disappeared. She gave the bush one last glance, waiting to see if an accomplice would appear, before shrugging and turning away. If she really wanted to, she supposed she could interrogate the Hermes cabin and charmspeak the prankster into coming forward, but it definitely wasn't worth it, not for such a simple prank. Instead, Piper hurried to aid Amy in taking the weights out. "No problem," she responded cheerfully when Amy thanked her. Piper pushed gently on the canoe, and it slid forward easily. "It seems fine now although I'd test it in the water before you get in just to be safe." She wouldn't have been surprised if the Hermes camper had drilled holes in the bottom.

Amy nodded and then almost effortlessly pushed the canoe into the water. See, that's how it's supposed to go. Man. Who would even think of a prank like that? Much to her relief, the boat seemed to be just fine. If it hadn't...well, she wouldn't have done anything. That just wasn't her style. Thanks for your help Piper. Are you busy today? If not you could totally join me out on the water. It could be fun. Cabin leaders had more work than the counselors, but it could be fun nonetheless. Amy might even wait for her if whatever tasks she had wouldn't take too long.

The boat glided into the water and stayed afloat, now that the weights were gone. Thankfully, the Hermes camper hadn't thought to sabotage it further.
Piper hesitated at Amy's second question. Yes, she was busy, but she did not want to leave. This had been the most exciting thing that had happened to her today. "Well, technically I am." She paused before explaining further. "I'm supposed to be supervising the campers in arts building even though it's the last place in Camp that needs supervision. I was planning on just swinging by as late into my shift as possible and making sure that no one's been stabbed by a paintbrush or something." Piper glanced down at her watch, and as she had suspected, she was already late. Good. "I'd much rather canoe though."
