Varian was 11. He'd been claimed two years ago out at Camp Halfblood. It was a nice place. He enjoyed all the things they taught there. The fighting and games were fun, not to mention the fact that he could spend almost as much time as he wanted in the forges! He loved that he could work on his inventions as much as he wanted and no one would care. The annoying thing ... he still hadn't met his dad yet. Sure, it was probably stupid, but part of Varian hoped that now that he spent most of his time at Camp, he would have seen his dad at least once by now. No dice. Fine. He didn't need his dad. He was fine at camp and then with his mom when he could be. Today he was home with her. She had to run to the grocery store so they could make dinner together, so he was in his "lab". Okay, so it was his bedroom. He had part of it all sectioned off from the rest, the spot right next to the fire of course. Varian was trying to see if he could improve his mom's toaster oven. She told him that it hadn't been working later, so he got this idea to try and fix it up with a few tweaks here and there. He didn't even bother telling his mother about it. This way, she'd be surprised when she got home! Hopefully. He groaned when the explosion happened. Again. Ugh. Hopefully he'd be able to find a way to fix this up before his mom got back. Gods knew a lot about their mortal kids early on, and sometimes that involved their destinies, and whether or not they would be great heroes some days. Often, the gods would give it some time to visit them, wait until their thirteenth, fourteenth, maybe even their fifteenth or sixteenth years of existence. Maybe even older. But Heph felt if one could get with them while they were young, then why not? And in Varian's case, he figured he would do just that. After all, he had decided to claim the kid early on, a good few years before he had to according to the deal made with Percy Jackson. There was a reason why. Varian was a hero in the making. Heph didn't want to scare the kid by suddenly popping into his room, so he played it subtle... well sort of subtle. He stood on the sidewalk and began to fly a remote control helicopter,,, an extremely well-built toy helicopter. He made it so it "accidentally" flew through Varian's window, which just happen to open "by itself". Clad in a gray t-shirt, black jeans, and black work boots, he looked over to see if Varian would react. He hoped so. Heph really didn't want to have to find another way to get his attention.
