HEPHAESTUS|VULCAN|Deity|Immortal|Zeus And Hera| |Pyrokinesis, Technokinesis, Standard God Powers|Slyvester Stallone|He/Him/His|
PERSONALITY
Hephaestus is like your typical disgruntled old man running a garage or fix-it shop. He's gruffy, a bit bitter, thanks to his mother and wife, double tough and not one for a lot of nonsense. He takes things slow and can be stubborn. Like most gods, he has an ego due to being a higher being. He can be prideful, wrathful, and often ignores or disregards even his offspring if he feels something is more important. He is brilliant as is made clear by his inventions, and highly creative and hard-working. His favorite thing to do is simply work in his forge. If he could help it, he'd do that for all eternity. However, if the time comes to fight, he will fight, but the cause better be darn good. As his Roman Counterpart, Vulcan, he is more militaristic and disciplined, focusing on weapons of war as opposed to random machines.
HISTORY
Hephaestus was a second-generation Olympian, the son of Zeus and Hera. Unlike the other Olympians, he was hideous and deformed at birth, so Hera, repulsed by him, cast him out of Olympus. He fell into the see, where he was raised by the kind Thetis. However, he still plotted revenge against his mother. He got his revenge by creating a throne for Hera, which entrapped her when she sat in it. It took some time before Hephaestus finally forgave and released her. The two came to terms and Hephaestus' place among the Olympians was solidified. Hephaestus became the Blacksmith of the Gods, as well as the God of Fire and the Forge. Though he had a place on Olympus, he often spent time in his volcano, making weapons or war and other various items for the Gods. He is also famous for molding Pandora out of clay, the woman who would open the box that released evil into the world.
When Aphrodite flirted with every god on Olympus, it became a problem, and Hera, being the Goddess of Marriage, finally settled things by giving the Goddess of Love to Hephaestus. Though he was in shock that he of all the gods won the beautiful goddess, he promised to be a good and loving husband. Aphrodite wasn't quite as loyal, and there was a big confrontation when Aphrodite had an affair with Ares. A bitter Hephestus broke his vow to Aphrodite, and made a lot of efforts to humiliate her and Ares over time. He also romanced other individuals, including Aphrodite's own handmaiden. Like many gods, he also went on to mate with humans.
During the Roman Empire, Hephaestus became Vulcan, a more militaristic and disciplined version of himself. He was more revered in Rome than he was in Greece, due to the fact that he was a God of Weaponry. He was also highly feared as the God of Volcanoes, as volcanoes played a strong role in tragic parts of Rome's history. While Hephaestus was seen as somewhat more benevolent by humans, Vulcan was fierce and destructive like Fire itself.
When Kronus and the Titans returned to threaten the world, Hephaestus appeared on certain occasions, and even helped Percy Jackson while he was trapped on Calypso's Island, hunting that he needed Rachel Dare's help to get through the Labyrinth. Hephaestus also voted for Percy to live during the Winter Solstice when some of the other gods felt he needed to be rid of. During the battle against Kronus' army, Hephaetus aided in the defeat of Typhon. Hephaestus, like the other Olympians, had his own cabin at Camp Half-Blood, Number Nine, and several notable offspring including Jake Mason, Charles Beckondorf, and later Leo Valdez.
In the war with Gaea, Hephaestus helped his son, Leo Valdez, on occasion, including returning Festus the Dragon to him after Leo wrecked it, and later helping Leo face the Giants in Sparta. He could have been more help prior, but, like many of the gods, his Greek and Roman forms were in conflict, causing people to feel he and the other gods had abandoned the heroes. After the Battle, Hephestus returned to the Forge, going about his business and awaiting the next great problem. Though what part he'll play in that is yet to be determined. He, like the other gods, is highly fickle.
EXPLANATION OF ABILITY SPECIALTY
Along with having standard godly powers such as Immortality, Disguise, The Ability To Bless And Curse, Manifestation, Teleportation, and so on, Hephaestus has the ability to control fire (Pyrokinesis) and any and all machines (Technokinesis), as well as Geokinesis in the sense of controlling volcanoes, lava, and magma. He is a master forger and inventor, and various machines, tech, and weaponry can be attributed to him. OOC: Zee They/Them/Their
