Fin didn't really care for archery, he much preferred to be on the front lines, working with a sword or his own two firsts against the enemy. However, he did realize that is was an important skill and he really shouldn't ignore it. Also, he had been asked to train a group of Greeks in the ways of Roman archery. He needed to help them, and himself, understand the way the arrows danced with the bow and how they found their target.
So, here he was, at the shooting range, waiting for his class. He was only using a practice bow and some borrowed arrows, considering he didn't own any of these weapons of his own. He was testing out the technique, the feeling of the bow in his hands and the way the arrow bounced off of the string...

Amaryllis wasn't completely sure why she had been chosen to do archery training with the Romans, but here she was. Another camper had shoved an unfamiliar bow into her hands and pointed in the vague direction of where the lesson was supposed to take place without anymore explanation. It had taken her well over ten minutes to find somewhere that looked like an archery range, but she finally made it just in time to watch someone line up a shot.
The guy wasn't Greek, that much she knew. He was older than her by at least a few years, so she would have met him by now. No, he was definitely roman. When none of her friends showed up after a few long moments, Amaryllis finally gave up and decided to call out to the person in front of her. "Hey! Ummm...am I in the right place? I'm supposed to be meeting someone for archery lessons, but I think I got lost. Her voice was tentative, slightly unsure. The last thing she wanted to do was make an idiot out of herself the first time she went to Camp Jupiter.

Finally, someone showed up. Finley didn't turn to look, but kept his eye on the target as he raised his arrow and laced it into the bow string. He took a few deep breaths, knowing perfectly well that someone was behind him. Finally, he released his breath and the arrow at the same time. It was a near bulls-eye, but not quite. Finally, he turned around, but he didn't make eye contact with the girl. No, he simply turned back and took a swift step toward her, taking the bow from her hands and adjusting it slightly. "No, you're in the right place. There should be two others coming," he said, handing the bow back to her. "Meanwhile, you can step up to this line," he gestured to where he had been standing and took a step back so she could pass him.

"Umm...okay?" Amy started, doing as he said and wondering what she had some in her past lives to deserve this. Whoever this guy was did not sound happy to be here, or maybe that was just a Roman thing. "My name is Amaryllis by the way. Amaryllis Bryant, daughter of Achelois. Who are you?"
Maybe a little introduction would loosen him up a bit. If it didn't, then this was probably going to be a long day for both of them. Still, it wasn't like she could just retreat back to camp now, so she looked up at him with a bright smile and decided then and there that they were going to have some fun today, even if it killed them both.

Fin still didn't look directly into her eyes as she stepped up. He watched the way she walked, her form, her stance. All for the sake of archery, of course. "Finley," he said flatly, stepping up beside her and handing her an arrow, "go ahead and show me the Greek way, how you would normally do it. I can teach the alterations better once I've seen where your at there," he lifted his head to looked back over her shoulder, wondering where the other Greeks were. Knowing them, they were probably drunk of strawberry juice, passed out back at their camp.

Amy stepped up towards the line and raised her bow. Her feet were planted kind of like Chiron had tried to teach her, but she knew it wasn't right. Maybe she had been sent here because everyone back at Camp had given up trying to teach her any real defensive skills other than hiding and calling for help. In her mind she knew she wasn't that hopeless in a life or death situation, but this was practice and she couldn't quite bring herself to take it as seriously as she probably should. Her mother was a minor goddess, she didn't have as many issues with attacks as the others did.
Finally pulling herself back down to reality, Amy let the arrow fly. The bolt hit the target way off center, but she was fine with that. At least it hit. " Alright, so what now? Maybe I can learn your way of doing things easier. " Or maybe she was just paying a little more attention to him than she did Chiron. Why, she didn't know, but at least she was concentrating.

He had seen the way the Greeks learned, and it was clear this girl wasn't very well practiced in it. Still, she had a strange confidence about her as the arrow flew. Finley didn't catch where it landed, at first. He was staring at her. Of course it was purely for helping her shoot the correct way, watching her stance. Why, what were you thinking? Anyway, he finally looked over at the target and seeing where the arrow landed. He gave a firm nod.
"It's a bit funny, actually. Your technique is a bit more similar to that of the Romans than the Greeks. Here," he took a step forward, reaching out to touch her waist with his right hand, adjusting it a little and letting her feet follow with the leg. He removed his hand, but now lifted both his hands to her elbows, standing slightly behind her. "Okay, lift the bow again," he starter.

Amaryllis jumped slightly whenever Finley touched her, not expecting the contact from a stranger. Still, it was purely professional...well, she thought it was anyways. She could feel the difference between how she had been standing before and her stance now, and he was right. It didn't feel as foreign as the Greek way of doing things. Maybe Achelois was secretly Roman or something. Lifting her bow, she didn't quite wait for him to ask her to fire it, choosing to go ahead and do it anyways. The arrow hit much closer to the center than it had before, and she found herself actually being excited. "Wow! I mean, it actually almost hit the target!" For a moment, she forgot that Finley's hands were still at her elbows or that she was supposed to be serious as she grinned and turned to excitedly hug the man behind her.
The shock of what she had done stopped Amaryllis in her tracks, her arms quickly falling to her sides as she stepped backwards to look at Finley. "Oh my gods, I'm so sorry." Amy's cheeks flushed bright red and she dropped her head, hoping that he would choose to ignore it rather than acknowledge it.

Finley noticed that she jumped at his touch, but that didn't stop him from doing it. Here was here to do a job, after all. Her arrow was much closer to it's mark this time, and he smiled at her exclamation of joy at the shot. As she whipped around, her arms excitedly coming towards him, he froze on the spot until her arms dropped. As she apologized, looking up at him, he finally made eye contact with her.
Beautiful. She was beautiful. Even being as stern and serious as he was, even he could appreciate that. As she dropped her head, he found himself starting to smile. "Hey, Amaryllis, you have good reason to celebrate. Don't worry about it," his cheeks were feeling hot now. He brushed the thought aside, reaching out to tap her lightly on the chin. "Head up now. I think we can get you to hit that center target by the end of the lesson."

Amy nodded and looked towards the target again, following the same motions. "So, have you always done stuff like this? I mean, is the bow your thing? I don't really use anything else, because it's the easiest thing for them to teach me." Okay, so she was rambling, but what else do you talk to a son of Mars about? She was hoping that if she tried to relate to him the same way she did with the Ares kids. That normally went over like a ton of bricks, but it was all she knew. "My parents, both of them, are kinda peaceful so fighting doesn't come naturally to me like it does most Demi gods, you know?"

Finley finally let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding when she turned back toward the target. "Sword. And my own to fists," he said, honestly telling her what he preferred to use. "I'm required to know about all weaponry though, and it comes easily to me. My father is Mars, God of war," he explained. He was almost embarrassed to admit that he was the son of the War God, but he had never been embarrassed about it before. Why now? He nodded as she explained that fighting does come easily to her, "that's not a bad thing, though. I don't necessarily like fighting, I'm just good at it," and that was true. Fin would much prefer peace over death and destruction. Well, unless it was a monsters death.
"You just need to be prepared. To be able to defend yourself. Ready?" he asked, stepping up beside her once more to watch her as she prepared to take another shot. "Breathe slowly," he added.

"My mother is Achelois. She's a minor moon goddess and her name literally means to take away the pain. Fighting causes too much of that for me to ever be comfortable with it, unless a monster is involved. Then I can condone it just fine." Amy replied before doing as he instructed. Slowing down and taking a deep breath, she looked at the target far longer than she normally did. Concentration was hard for her, especially with the fact that her battle instincts didn't seem to work the same way everyone else's did. The Apollo kids always teased her that she might really just be ADD. Finally she decided it was time to loose the arrow, which landed just out side the center of the target.

To take away the pain. That was something Fin could get behind. That was a beautiful concept. "Does it work on emotional pain, too?" he half joked with a small chuckle. It really was a legitimate question, though. What powers did this Amaryllis have, anyway?
As she released the arrow, with a very successful hit, Fin gave a nod and smiled. "Amazing. Maybe you should start teaching me," okay, Fin, really that's enough joked for now. He took another step forward and grabbed another bow and arrows, lifting it up toward the target and taking his own deep breath. He took a shot, and it landed right beside Amy's arrow, but on the side further from the center.
"See?" he turned toward her with another flash of his grin.

Amy couldn't help but laugh a little bit at the site of Finley's borderline missed shot. Surely he was joking or just trying to make her feel better. Before she could say anything or try again, another one of the people from half blood came running up, saying something about a sword and the kid asking for Amy instead of the Roman healers. It wasn't like she could actually do anything for them, but maybe a familiar face would make them feel a little better. Sorry, I guess duty calls. I'll see you around hopefully. She smiled before heading in the direction that her fellow camper took off in.
((ooc: sorry, they really need a new thread. want to start? ))
