If there was one thing Ethan loved, it was strawberries. He could eat them anytime, night or day, and here he was. Standing at the edge of a glorious strawberry field! He had never seen so many strawberries in one place. Camp Half-Blood... demi-god heaven. Did life get better than having all you can eat strawberries?
He started picked some of the delicious red berries and stuck them in a pocket of his backpack. He hadn't even been at this camp for a day and he loved it already. Now he just needed to meet some people. A bunch of Romans had come over to the Greek camp to play capture the flag. He got to come because he was a Centurion and part of the first cohort. That meant he got to do all sorts of fun stuff that some other demi-gods might not get to do.
He grabbed a few more strawberries, popping one in his mouth. Delicious. He turned away from the field to go explore the rest of camp when he saw a girl. She was dressed in dark clothing and had long dark hair. He couldn't see her face. She was standing alone. His eyes went wide, was that... no, no as the wind shifted her hair moved away from her face and he could see her. Yet he still had a funny feeling about this girl. He walked toward her.

Sometimes Cabin Leaders gave the silliest assignments.
Yup, you guessed right. Hadni was sent to pick strawberries. Strawberries, heaven knows why. Her cabin leader simply stated that it had to be done and that Hadni was the one assigned to do it today. Just to make the assignment all the more enjoyable, Hadni dressed in her darkest back shirt, black leggings, and her charm necklace. She made sure to thicken the darkest eyeliner around her eyes, and let her hair roam wild around her face.
Not that she would ever admit this out loud, but it was incredibly hot out there picking strawberries wearing all black! She liked browns and whites too, but she was trying to make a point. That strawberry picking wasn't suited for her. Ten strawberries had already blown up in her face and she had to wipe the red juice onto her sleeves. She probably looked like bloody Mary.
In an instant, she suddenly felt like someone was staring at her. She looked up, brushing the long strand of hair out of her face to see a boy.
Not just any boy, the boy. The one she had been dreaming about for the past year.
She suddenly dropped her eyes back to the ground, to the strawberries, and decided to pretend she didn't notice him walking over.

He saw her look up at him and he lifted his hand up to wave, but then she looked back down. He dropped his arm awkwardly. Okay... guess she didn't see him. He continued to walk toward her taking out another strawberry and biting off the end.
"Hey, I was just noticing that we were both, you know, picking strawberries out here. Do you like strawberries." Oh great, he was going to be awkward around this girl. That was great. He looked at her and the feeling he had before was stronger now. There was something about this girl that he couldn't dismiss. He needed to get to know her.

That accent. That voice. Yup, it was definitely the guy from her dreams. And he was adorable.
She mentally scolded herself for thinking that, looking up as he spoke. Catching eyes with him caused her to catch her breath, but she nonchalantly acted as though nothing had changed. "Not really, no," she answered, her tone sarcastic and cold. "I was sent out here by my cabin leader on assignment. You a strawberry enthusiast, then?" she dropped her gaze again, back to the strawberries.
She had to suppress a smile that was threatening to burst from her lips.

He shrugged, putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans. He quickly took them out, not cool! Act cool. Instead he put one hand on his hip and let the other move as he spoke. "Uh, yeah. I-- you could say that." He said. Man he was bad at this cool thing. "But assignment? What sort of assignment is it to pick strawberries? Does your cabin need them for something?" He changed the subject. Focus on her, that is what a good guy did when he met a pretty girl. Pretty girl. He tried to keep the surprise from showing in his eyes as his mind finally registered the sound of her voice. It was her voice. Obviously, but she had the same voice as the girl in his dreams. No wonder he felt like he knew her.

The more he spoke, the more the corner of her mouth started to lift slightly into a smile. She kept her gaze away from him, not wanting him to catch her in the act. As he asked why she was picking them, what they were needed for, her smile disappeared as she looked up at him, a little eye roll gracing her features. "Heck if I know. My Cabin Leader just said I had to do it, and we're supposed to do what they say," she rolled her eyes once again. She moved to stand, trying to push off the ground with her right hand placed behind her. Sadly, her hand slipped and she fell, smushing many strawberries in her wake.
That was just her luck. Gee thanks, mom, she thought as she lifted her hands to reveal the red mess of strawberry goo.

He opened his mouth to make a comment when her hand slipped. He took a step forward, reaching to help her, but when his foot landed, it must have been in some very old berries. He felt his legs slip out from under him and he landed face first in the strawberry mush.
He squeezed his eyes shut. Really? Now was the time he had to be clumsy? This was the girl of his dreams, literally and he just face planted it in his favorite food! Allowing himself only a moment to wallow in self pitty, he put his hands on the ground and pushed himself up, swinging his legs around to a seated position. His face was covered in red goo and green leaves. A half squished strawberry slipped from his nose.
A smile broke free, followed shortly by a laugh. "I've never fallen for a girl so quickly before!" he teased, or rather... mostly teased.

Hadni gasped as he fell on his face, her own hand swiftly moving to cover her open mouth. She was still frozen when he finally pushed himself up and that smile broke out, and that laugh, and those words. Her hand lowered as the corner of her mouth tugged upward, forming a bit of a half smile. She felt a laugh bubbling up in her throat and she tried to hold it down, but it came out anyway. After a moment, she stopped, "I guess I just have that effect on people. Are you okay-erh-what was your name?" she felt terrible that she didn't know it, but why? She had just met him, well, other than in her dreams. She had no reason to feel bad for not knowing his name but... she felt like she already should.

I've never fallen for a girl so quickly Who was he, an idiot? Yes, yes he was. The biggest idiot--- wait... she was smiling. And laughing! YES! Score one for Ethan. But he didn't tell her his name? Ugh. The girl of his dreams was right here in front of him and he didn't tell her his name!
"Oh, yeah, it's Ethan. Ethan Marsters, I'm an Apollo kid. So I live in the Apollo cabin. Pretty good at archery, and healing and all that jazz... Anyway, what's your name?" He stopped his rambling. He did that when he was nervous. But meeting the girl who dominated your dreams was a pretty nerve wracking experience.

Ethan, Ethan Marsters." She felt an intense little pull in her chest as he said that, and she even slightly leaned toward him, but only just. 'Apollo, God of sunshine and music. That explains it," she said with a mock little eye roll. Of course he wanted her name now, that was a fair trade... "Hadni Hawkins," she didn't give her mothers name, unsure if she wanted him to know that information just yet. No, she would rather him have an innocent opinion of her right now.
She scooted away from him a bit before wrapping her arms around her knees, "so, Ethan, do you do rhymes too?" she joked.

As he finished rambling she leaned in toward him. He was slightly taken aback. Did girls normally do that? Nope. Not with him they didn't. Normally it was "ew! A boy who actually shows appropriate interest in me! Get away!" or at least, that is what he thought they said. So when she leaned toward him... he froze. The girl of his dreams... taking an interest?
"Hey what is wrong with sunshine and music? Seriously, one makes things grow and the other ... well the other is just awesome." he grinned at her as he said it. And then she said her name. Hadni Hawkins. Hadni. Wow. She really might be perfect. Perfect face, perfect hair, and a perfect name to match. He was contemplating the value of adding another last name to her own when she scooted away from him. Perhaps he was getting ahead of himself.
"Rhymes? Uh, lets see. I have a shoe. It is blue. I tried." he shrugged with a sad little look. "It's true." A smirk replaced his sad face.

"Nothing wrong with growing things and awesome things," she almost chuckled, but held it back. She couldn't get attached to him right now. Right now? Ever, she couldn't get attached to him ever. It wasn't safe for him. It wasn't safe for anyone, really.
At his lame, yet successful attempt at a rhyme she actually let out a laugh. She stopped quickly though, trying to contain her smile. "Impressive. What other god given abilities to you have?" This was a bad thing to bring up. What if he asked about her mother? She wouldn't lie, she rarely did. Plus, lying to Ethan seemed... Impossible.

Ethan noticed her reserved manner. He wondered why she stopped herself from laughing. No one should do that. So he made a goal right then I am going to make this girl laugh. Or at least smile. Her smile was gorgeous. When her lips tugged up at the corners he felt like an addict getting the fix he needed.... that was not a good metaphor, but it was accurate. In response to her question he shrugged his shoulders, wiping off a bit of strawberry goop from his face. "Just the usual Apollo things. Archery, minor healing knowledge, and uh." he rubbed his neck, his hand coming away with sticky red stuff. "I know when people are lying." he said quickly. He wiped his hand on his pants, which didn't do much good. "Uh, so you strike me as a girl who enjoys a good book?" he asked, trying to put her more at ease and lead away from his last comment.

He went on to attempt to wipe off his face and talk about archery and healing. Then he said he knew when people were lying, and her eyes, "what?" she said over his next question. He didn't really give her time to react to that, and she knew why. She didn't have a very friend-savvy power either. As he wiped the strawberry goop from his neck, he really just smeared it more. She bit her lip, her lips curling upward again as she leaned forward, instinctively licking her thumb and moving it toward his red face. When she realized what she was doing she stopped, her eyes widening ever more. She dropped her hand, "erh, yeah. I do like books," and she did. But she wasn't sure if she was ready for the subject change yet. "So wait... if I said... something you would be able to tell if I was lying? That's... awesome, and terrifying. I'm sure you get that a lot," she said, releasing a nervous chuckle.

Ethan jumped as she interrupted his question, but still managed to get it out. This girl was so intense and mysterious... but he still felt like he knew her. His hand came away from his neck covered in red stuff, but he could still feel it on his skin. He flicked his hand toward the green leaves hen wiped it on his pants. When he looked up she was leaning toward him, her hand outstretched like she was going to wipe something off of his face. He froze.
She froze at the same time and then pulled her hand back. Her expression was horrified, but even as he eyes widened he could help but think that they were the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
Then she went back to his power. Great. This was the part where people pretended to be his friend and then never spoke to him again. This was the part where no one told the truth. They all pretended to be chill and friendly. But none of them were. They didn't like their secrets being out there. Not that he knew what people were thinking. No, he just knew truth or lie. "Yeah, it is fine. I mean it has drawbacks. Like I never had a surprise party because no one can keep a secret around me. And... well yeah. " His southern accent got a little thicker as he spoke. Sometimes he did that, he found that the accent helped people focus less on the disturbing power and more on him. He looked up at her and froze, once again.
She had just said awesome and terrifying. And was telling the truth. No one did that. A surge of something familiar crashed over him. He knew this girl.
